Oglethorpe University has received a $25,000 gift from the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) and the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta to benefit financial aid for Mexican students or students of Mexican origin. Oglethorpe will match the funding awarded and distribute it to qualified students.

“We thank you for your commitment to support the development and personal well-being of Mexicans living in the U.S. through education programs,” commented Consul General F. Javier Díaz de León, who presented a ceremonial check to Oglethorpe President Larry Schall on November 29.

Several Oglethorpe students who may benefit from the funds attended the ceremony and had the opportunity to meet with the Consul General.

The gift was made possible by a contribution from the organization Parents Alliance to the IME Becas Scholarship Program. Oglethorpe was selected by a local committee to receive the funds.
