Dr. Jay Lutz Receives 2016 Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award

Jay-Lutz-1-242x300Dr. Jay Lutz, professor of French and the Frances I. Eeraerts ’76 Professor of Foreign Language, received the 2016 Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award. He was recognized at Oglethorpe University’s commencement ceremony on May 14 by last year’s recipient, Dr. Irwin Ray.

Established in 1991, the Vulcan Teaching Excellence Awards annually honor an outstanding professor on selected member campuses of the Georgia Independent College Association. The award is presented to a member of the faculty in recognition of excellence in teaching, commitment to student success, and leadership to enhance campus community.

Dr. Lutz received his undergraduate degree from Antioch University and a master’s and doctorate from Yale University. Dr. Lutz has a PhD in French and Scandinavian literature and was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to study at the University of Stockholm in Sweden. He joined Oglethorpe’s faculty in 1988, and in addition to teaching French and Core classes, serves on the Oglethorpe University Museum of Art Board of Trustees and teaches noncredit Swedish.
