In July 2014, the Oglethorpe University was recognized as an ODK Circle of Distinction for the 2013-2014 academic year. Omicron Delta Kappa is a highly selective honor society that encourages and rewards the highest standards of excellence for young leaders and innovators at universities nationwide.

In a letter to Dr. Jay Lutz, Oglethorpe’s ODK faculty advisor, Dr. Tara Singer, executive director of ODK, urged him to share the news of their achievement with the “entire campus community” for the “recognition and celebration of this great accomplishment.”

Not only did Oglethorpe’s entire chapter receive national recognition for excellence, one student, now an alumna, was singled out for her commitment to ODK values, exceptional character, and achievements. The ODK scholarship committee recognized ODK member Alexandria Ree Hadd ’13 for “demonstrated excellence in campus leadership” and awarded her an Omicron Delta Kappa Foundation Scholarship. Ali was one of only 20 students nationwide to receive this prestigious recognition. She is pursuing her Ph.D. in Quantitative Psychology at Vanderbilt University.

Oglethorpe University’s ODK Circle was established in 1976 and remains a vital, thriving part of the campus today. Each December, at the annual Boar’s Head Ceremony, a very select number of Oglethorpe’s highest achieving students are chosen to be inducted into the university’s ODK Circle. Initiation into the circle is one of the highest honors an Oglethorpe student can achieve.
