Welcome, Freshmen!

Campus for certainly looked a whole lot different from what we’re used to seeing  in the summer.  That’s because Oglethorpe hosted one of its annual OU Passport events, an all-day orientation for incoming students and their families.  For many of the attendees, this was their first day on campus.  Members of the Class of 2014 mingled with classmates, met professors, and signed up for classes.

As always, the Admission department had plenty of welcome activities planned for them, from the ‘OU Amazing Race’ in the morning, to a BBQ luncheon, to dorm tours later in the day. More than 50 student volunteers were also on hand, meeting the new students and helping with the event throughout the day.

One of the featured activities was freshmen seminars, in which new students had the opportunity to sample classes they might take in the fall, like Core and Special Topics courses. There was some down time as well, as students could be seen playing frisbee and croquet on the quad. While the new Petrels got a dose of campus life, their parents attended meetings regarding finances, academics, and scholarship opportunities.

This was the second OU Passport day this summer, as Oglethorpe gets ready for its biggest freshman class to date.  Scroll down for more smiling faces!
